Wow. I'm not sure how I feel about anyone deciding to fill in for Adams. We all saw the debacle that was the HHG movie, written from Adams notes. There aren't any notes for the next book, aside from that snippet in The Salmon of Doubt. And that one was written as a Dirk Gently book, with a noted added saying that it's "more of a Hitchhiker's idea." So we're left with completely original work, written off the base, like fanfic or some such. Those never seem to work out. I suppose there may be counter-examples out there, but I can't think of any. I guess Spider Robinson's Variable Star (written from Heinlein's partial outline) was pretty good, but was very clearly not intended to be written in Heinlein's voice. Adams will be a tough act to follow, especially if someone is trying to follow his style.

Of course, they'll get their money out of me, anyway, and probably even at hardback prices. I've also added some Artemis Fowl to the to-be-read queue, just to give this guy a fair shake first. But I'm not optimistic.
