Was it necessary to make ANY version of the Macarena.
Strangely enough, I was one of the first people to do the Macarena back in 1995/1996. A friend of mine at college had been to South America and brought back a Macarena CD. She would blare the song down the hallway and everybody would come out of their dorm rooms to do the dance. This is a completely true story and I am not joking. We would get seriously into it. There's nothing like having a huge buy burst into your room and declare "Macarena Party!" as if his favorite football team had just scored a touchdown.
Anyway, I have not heard this Christmas version and if I'm lucky I will avoid.... at least for this year.
dude, i first danced the macarena on one of those rinky dink florida "pirate ships" where they take you out in the gulf and point at the waves and shout "DOLPHINS DOLPHINS!" when there aren't any. i had an eyeliner mustache and a plastic eyepatch and i was fourteen. then i spent the summer in europe and the macarena was huge. i have pictures of our 6'8" band director dancing it. and then we got back to the states just in time for america to discover the song. not to mention the fact that in one version of the macarena (someone had bought a cd with about fifteen different versions on it and nothing else) the girl laughed. a lot. and my friends were insistent that i laughed just like her. i spent an entire year having to respond to requests for "the macarena laugh".
