everybody in kaffiyas

so kaffiyas are a new element of fashion as was displayed last night at Savour. Someone also mentioned to me that they are now sold at Ardene. I was really trying not to be judgemental or critical of visibly white folks who were adorning them. Is it that good? Should I go?
The keffiyah thing pisses me off bigtime. For some reason, it's something I've seen a lot in Montreal.
Also, will you be my job counsellor?

i had that exact conversation with my friend at savour, a non-white, long-time keffiyeh wearer, who was quite upset by how rampant the "trend" was on saturday night. the fact that the wearers weren't arab was not the the offensive part, it was that they had no idea why they were wearing one when she asked.
we found that pretty shocking too. if you're wearing one out of solidarity, i think you should be able to say who and what exactly you are supporting. the line between hipster accessory and solidarity i think is pretty clear.
