Will the Boredom Ever End?

Nov 15, 2005 20:11

Four months from today and everyone in my unit is 'supposed' to be gone... It just can't get here fast enough. I try not to think about it because it will only make time seem to go by at an even slower pace (if that's possible). I'm trying to study more German while I'm here. I currently only know about 300 words. It's a start, but I'd like to ( Read more... )

I took German when I was in high school. I'm not very good at languages, but I liked German. We had an exchange student from Germany that was our classes TA. She taught us real German...not that stupid book stuff. And we taught her real American. I wish I'd kept praticing, I've lost pretty much all my knowledge now. I can still kind of understand it when I read/hear it....and pretty much can't remember how to say anything.

Growing up in Florida we didn't really have much of a choice as far as languages taught in high school. I think the choices were Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Puerto Rican Spanish, Cuban Spanish... I think you get the idea! :) I really like German too, but damn it's hard. I share a house with a German couple. I'm going to ask them to help me learn real German.

Hallo Jen!
Greetings from Deutschland ;-D
Just came over your ad at some add me community, was intrigued and read a few of your entries.
I'd like to have you as a friend....vielleicht schreibe ich Dir auch mal etwas auf Deutsch?
I could write a lot here, instead, I think I'll just invite you to my virtual tent. Have some tea and let's talk....that is, if you like!

Greetings!

My German is really pretty terrible, but I think I understood most of that. Feel free to write to me in German and I'll do my best to translate. In fact, it will probably help me get better at it! :) Getting back to Germany will also help a lot. There aren't many German speakers in Afghanistan. Go figure!

I added you as a friend and feel free to add me as well.

Schon geschehen :-D
My younger cousin was part of our German Army for a little while, and he, too, was in Afghanistan.
He returned pretty impressed, and the experience has made him grow up hell of a lot.

I have been wanting to go to Ireland for the longest. Just seems so beautiful. I'll eventually get to England. Rich's mom and her family live there.

You should definitely go! I've been to London before and it was awesome. Everyone I know who has been to Ireland just raves about how beautiful it is. I can't wait to go!

I'd love to go to Ireland some day too. My boyfriend has been there and raves about how beautiful it is as well as how nice the people there were. And how meals would arrive with the entree plus 2 or 3 sides of various forms of potatoes. Sounds like my kinda place.
