This is my last week with my friends that will be going to Japan for the semester. I have been with them almost everyday in the past week. It doesn't help that school was in full swing with the first day of classes. Well I found out yesterday that my dad is okay. He was down in Slidell for Katrina. I found out from him that the hurricane shifted at the last minute and the eye went over his area. Not much damage was done to his house but the kennel where he was waiting the storm out with 60 odd animals. The roof blew off the kennel-but everyone was safe. I ( Read more... )

This Saturday I took off. That means I did no studying until about 11:30 last night. It has only been the first week and already it feels like so much longer. Well my first day of classes was interesting. I have kinetics in the morning and it was the only full class I had. We got our copyrighted text book (which was made from a copy shop). It feels wonderful to be finished with the REU project. We had our final presentations yesterday. Everyone did a wonderful job. It was also nice to see how the 15 studebts progresssed through 10 weeks. I will have to admit that for me this was the best presentation given by me all summer. Tomorrow is the last day of the REU. I'm so nervous, we have to give a presentation on the research we did over summer. I have a hard time speaking in front of people--now I find out there will be a camera as well as someone from NSF. NSF sponsors the REU program. The weekend was fun. I spent it with my aunt and cousins. So most of my weekend was a mad house. The kids running around excited to be seeing me and their cousins. I'm getting down to the last weeks of my REU in chicago. So everything is a tad stressful. I have to send most of my stuff home because of I will be flying back instead of driving.
