Used books? With a wide selection? Where is it??
So far all the used book stores I've seen are French-only.
Even the local Chapters and Indigo have a very limited selection of titles compared to the French stores... not to mention only two outlets on the entire island...
I suppose it's simply a question of demand.

Toronto used to (ahem, like 20 years ago) have a marvellous used book district, but increasing affluence has scattered them all over the city. Good used stores with which I am familiar include:

  • Seekers Books
    (416) 925-1982
    509 Bloor Street West
    Toronto, ON M5S 1Y2

This places specializes in a lot of new-agy psychology, mythology, etc, but it has a quirky and sometimes interesting selection of fiction and general interest non-fiction as well.
  • Ten Editions Books
    (416) 964-3803
    698 Spadina Avenue
    Toronto, ON M5S 2J2

Good selection of classics and general fiction.
  • She Said Boom Records & Books
    (416) 944-3224
    372 College Street
    Toronto, ON M5T 1S6

Small but artsy selection, also good for CDs, new and used.
  • Jamie Fraser Books
    (416) 598-7718
    427A Queen Street West
    Toronto, ON M5V 2A5

This specializes in science fiction and mysteries, including a heavy focus on first editions and pulp magazines.

Oooohhh... books...

My mom just got rid of a whole bunch of her books, and I inherited a huge bag of them, including a bunch of Clive Barker (who will be at the Fear Fest, take a pic of him for me, will ya? :p)

Free and books. Not 2 words you usually hear together. Good luck on your book hunt :)
