A lit love, a little bitching and a deep breath

Even though my presence around here has been scarce and I have missed so many birthdays you still found the time to wish me well. I'm very touched and grateful for the e-mails & such. Thank you - it means more than you'll know. My favourite present has to be the young'un's very successful first foray into baking.

I hope we all get to be more us than we have. Sometimes it's good to be reminded how amazing we can be.

So I thought I'd remind you today. You, my dear, are amazing. I can't tell you how many recs of yours I have followed to find delight - from music to books to articles to movies (City of Vice was great). So, thank you.

I'm sure I've always heard Pepys as "Peeps". Surely the BBC couldn't get it wrong?

The BBC could not get it wrong. Anything that airs the Goon Show has to be right.

It was a very stubborn English Lit Prof that spent a long time telling me how pronunciation changed through the centuries and how Peeps should actually be Pips. It beats Peppiss (which is how his name is pronounced in Portuguese).

I'm not a native speaker, English being my third language, but I thought I had a decent grasp on pronunciation. The fact that Samuel is somebody who has been in my life for quite sometime - as my different Diaries can attest - just made the long winded explanation all the more painful.

I'm sticking to Peeps.

It was some pompous English Lit Prof's idea of an interesting conversation. Actually, it would have been interesting if it had been about somebody else. Mr. Pepys has been in my life for way too long for me to be happy with the idea I should be saying Pips. It's bad enough that it becomes Peppiss in Portuguese.

Besides, as myrddrr mentioned bellow, the BBC cannot be wrong.

So, don't worry.

Happy Belated birthday! Sorry to hear about the earthquake, they're popping up in all kinds of places you wouldn't expect them. LOL about old Sam. He's been dead for a while so I'm sure he won't mind a little creative pronunciation. :)

Take care and have a great year to come!
