I prefer LJ, too. I've found many old friends (grade school, high school) on FB, but my adult friends, those who get the person I've become, are here.

I hear you. I basically use FB to organize my alumni reunions. In that aspect, FB made my life so much easier. But these are people I see once every five years and who know very little of who I am.
Not the people I run to when my world cracks around me.

Exactly! My 30th reunion happened 2 weeks ago. Of course, I couldn't go, but it was lovely seeing all the pictures, and I'm very glad for reconnecting with a couple people I've missed a lot. But most of them are those who knew me then, not now.

And yes - my LJ friends are my true support system! Even more than some offline people - there's more consonance here.
