The uncertainties of life

Thanksgiving seems to be a bad time for my dad. Two years ago he fell the day before Thanksgiving and broke his arm. Afterward, and since then I've tried to get him to move into an assisted-living facility because he's 81 years old and has Parkinson's disease. But, no go. Oh hon, please please delegate the decorations and don't worry about doing the presents, everyone will understand. Real life comes first, and you've got plenty on your plate already.

I took a class about aging. It was all about understanding the changes that come with advanced age, and the motivations people have for desiring certain types of elder care (independance = dignity and distance from death). It wasn't something very useful for dealing with the aging of others; I think its point was to teach us how to not put our kids in the situation you're in now.
