Yup. Luckily in my world for SOL etc, things are a lot more lenient. If you can explain something and make it believable AND make it fit in with the rules of the world, you can do it. If not...

It takes away from the story if executed badly, and loses credibility. It's probably best to try and brainstorm for a few days and follow some other path!

It was only a small problem but it bugged the hell out of me; I was trying to claim that a dog had been alive for much longer than dogs live. it was convenient for the story but I knew it was bullshit. I managed to fix it and make it a bit more interesting if I do say so myself :)
Fantasy worlds must be so much easier to write! 'This doesn't make sense.... eh I'll just say it was magic' lol jk i know it takes a lot of planning and thought but it still seems nice to be able to define the laws of reality to suite your needs.

Interesting! And yeah, fantasy worlds are a lot easier imo, but you have to make rules and stick to them. It just gives you more leeway and fun opportunities to get your characters out of the mess they managed to get into!
