I think what I enjoyed most about the story was how real the emotion was - John's fear that turned to despair, his guilt, Rodney blaming himself for leaving Sheppard behind, even the rage of the Dunedin thinking their PM had been murdered. Really nicely done.
This was completely wonderful. John's pain and helplessness and hopelessness were so frighteningly real. And then the irony of living through hell just to be told you were dying . . . well, that was the real torture. I loved the ending - with John needing to be outside and Rodney coming to stay with him. My favorite sentence was Rodney's. "John is and always will be Atlantis to Rodney."
Oh, and I loved the way Rodney's prediction of how bad things can happen in five days kept coming up all through the story. It really tied the whole thing together.
