Oh man...and I thought it was bad when my hard drive died a few months back. I managed to save a lot of things, but not everything. Now I move things onto CD's. All my fanfics are on one, so I have a copy for later. I can't use the work computer (my boss watches what we do through spyware - no WAY am I writing yaoi on those computers) so I can't really use the USB's that I do have. I feel for you, though!
