The Ultimate Distraction
He hated talking on seminars as much as he hated attending them. Unfortunately, the hospital held one tomorrow. Earlier, one of the main speakers had sent a notice telling he won’t make it and his desperate subordinates had turn to their hospital director for help.
The night, he was stuck on his study, with stacks of medical journal, trying to compose something for tomorrow, something vaguely interesting, that will not insult nor aggravate someone present (that he’s really good at), something that will occupy his 60 minutes slot.
It’s not an easy task, not with little distractions kept on knocking on his door.
First, his eldest son came, smelling like ginger cookies, asking him to check his math homework. Several minutes later, his younger brother came in, asking him to sign his cookie-crumbs-stained report card.
Next, his middle child came in, whipped cream smudge on his cheek, with a letter from his teacher saying that the boy had been involved in a fight yet again. After that, his five-year-old girl Hitomi, strawberry sauce on her face and clothes, came and asked if he would be present on the parents visiting day next week.
Last, Itsuki came in, showing this picture he’d just made of their family sitting on the kitchen together.

“Ryuuken-san! How nice of you to finally came down! Sit down, I’ll get your cake for you!”
He watched, amused, as the lithe, feisty shinigami who’d given him his five little treasure (who were sitting on their chairs with their own plate of cakes/cookies) put a huge slice of blueberry cheesecake on a plate, then turned around and gave him a sunny, meaningful *winning* smile. He knew she won’t let him go back to his study anytime soon.
The hell with seminars. He’ll come up with something later.
End?
