The language of flowers.

[ Day 52, 4:39pm - Greenhouse ]

Cheri is surveying the gardens, en route to the greenhouse, when she spies something rather odd. Well, maybe not that odd, but to her well-trained eye it sticks out like a sore thumb -- someone has been into the flowerbed where she grows the pretty yellow flowers she made for Wolfram. In fact, upon closer inspection ( Read more... )

His father has taken to lurking in the kitchens. This would not normally be a problem if not for the fact that the human had seen fit to hurl an apple at Conrad's head the minute the brunet descended from his chambers for a snack.

The words "Go see your mother," and a shit-eating grin were the only response Conrad's glare earned as he (barely) caught the fruit. The harried-looking cook tried to appear apologetic for the elder Weller's bad manners, but the kitchen staff's giggles somewhat undercut the sentiment. Thus it was that Conrad's hunt for fruitcake was thwarted and his retreat to his bed chambers (and Yozak) was altogether stymied.

As he walks to the greenhouse, Conrad tries not to drag too much. The truth is, he's been avoiding his mother. His meeting with Wolfram had been heartening and his meeting with Gwendal frustrating. And his first meeting with his father had been . . . memorable, to say the least. Conrad has not had a sterling track record when it comes to talking about anything meaningful with his family. The soft sound of his voice turns Cheri's head. When her eyes land on her second son she pauses for an instant, taking in his appearance. He looks better than he did when she checked on him the other night. There is more color in his face. And yes, his hair is definitely longer -- falling into his eyes a bit. She hasn't seen it this long in a quite a while.

Her lips curve into a pleased smile. It's cute. ♥

"Not really," Cheri replies cheerfully. She looks down briefly in order to deftly cut another lily (eight should suffice) and place it in the bucket of water with the others. "I haven't had to worry about them at all. We've acquired a new gardener who seems to have exactly the right touch."

She flicks her gaze upward and beams at him. This was turning out to be a good afternoon. "I must say...you're a sight for sore eyes, darling."

Conrad smiles slightly. How is it that she always makes him feel like a child again? He walks over and sits on the edge of the flowerbed near her.

"Thank you. It's good to be home again." On impulse he reaches out and touches an uncut lily lightly. The petals feel soft and thick between his fingers. After admiring the blossom for a moment he pulls back and brushes his hair from his eyes. "I missed it," he admits quietly. "Everyone."

Cheri doesn't immediately answer. She continues to cut the lilies, watching Conrad carefully out of the corner of her eye all the while. This isn't how they usually start conversations. She only sees him sporadically, and when she does she usually tries to make up for the lack of attention by invading his personal space with hugs and/or chattering a mile a minute about superficial things. She knows they aren't close, but her habit of vainly attempting to actualize her wishful thinking is a hard one to break.

"Did you?" Cheri murmurs. "It felt very strange without you here." Another white lily finds its way into the bucket. She smiles at him. "How was Caloria? Relaxing, I hope?"
