The new ToS got everyone's knickers in a twist. I wonder how many people actually read them. I did. Some of it is shady, but not that much more egregious than previous versions of the ToS. I think it's unlikely that LJ will start deleting blogs for gay content. If you've set your blogs to "Restricted to those 18 and over" you've covered your ass vis a vis the ToS and restrictions over content. The real issue is the references to Russian Fed. laws governing responsibilities to the consumer - the laws are referenced but not explained and I doubt many even know about them. Also, the whole ToS doesn't apply to PAID services, so if you have a paid account, what you agreed to when you signed in doesn't apply to you. The thing that irked me the most is that they can sell your email address linked to your LJ to 3rd party advertisers, and there's no way to stop them. So if you start getting a lot of penis enlargement spam soon, you'll know why
( ... )
Yeah, I mean, my expectation is that nothing will change. But shit has gotten so crazy in the world lately that I am not going to take a risk if there's even a modest chance, you know? I'll still be here (to whatever limited degree I've been here anyway) until they kick me off! XD
Yeah, I'm here until the wheels fall off. This is where I host my art/image content, and I post all of my fic over on Ao3. Most of my comms and friends are gone but I REFUSE to be on Facebook and I'm too old for Tumblr ;)
Tumblr is THE WORST. I did it pretty regularly for, like. At least a year or two? It was awful. I'll never get that time back. I don't think I met a single person over there in all that time. There is NO community aspect to it at all!
Well I'm happy you are posting your fics on AO3 regardless, downloading from there to read on my iPad is so much easier! But I hear you about the precaution-taking. I think that is just good risk management. Who knows what this new regime will mean.
I'm not real happy about it because I really hate AO3 and it's a lot of work for no reward. But I guess if it makes it easier for you to enjoy my stuff that is some consolation. <3
I don't. I'm considering doing one to back up my personal entries from this account. But if I do decide to do that, it won't be until I'm done reposting all my old fic.
Hee! I am honored by this association. XD I was talking to someone about him the other day, too. MAYBE WE WERE HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS AT THE SAME TIME. *cliffhanger music plays*
I'm definitely not moving anything over there that's under 1000 words, since I don't even put that stuff on my masterlist. TBH, it feels kind of silly even posting anything under 10K over there, but then, I guess that's just because I spent so many years convinced I would never post there to begin with.
I think in this current political environment it's always better to play safe than sorry, and having a backup in case the worst happens is a smart move. Like many of my flist I'm opening a DW account, but I'm staying put! Hope to see more of you here too. Take care :)
Yeah, that's my thinking. I do think, for the most part, that the actual threat is being blown out of proportion. But man, I have thought that about so many things the last few months and then had the thing I didn't take seriously happen, so. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY INDEED.

Maybe I should move my ficlet/drabble length things to AO3, but I feel like they'd look silly in a less bloggish, more archival environment.
