The whole Mrs/Ms/Miss thing has been misconstrued to most of us since we were all little kids calling our teacher "Miss" or "Ms." or "Mrs." I say, no matter what age, if you know the person is married...use Mrs. If you know they're not married, use "Miss." If you have no idea, just use "Ms." All of this of course if you say it with their last name. If you're just calling out to a female, there's no problem with ma'am.

"Excuse me, miss" sounds horrible.

For me, that's not PC. It just sounds right.

Basic manners also depends on how well you've grown up and how much you respect others. Blame it on parents.

All the better to not have kids!

So true. I was in Wally World on Sunday. I always say, if ever I start to waffle on the idea of NOT reproducing, all I have to do is spend an afternoon (ESPECIALLY on the weekend) in a grocery or department store. I always leave with renewed conviction.
