Stars In My Eyes ; Kaisoo (Intergalactic AU)

So this is kind of an interlude before the next part of the Kaisoo saga. It's very short. There's suggestive content, nothing hardcore though.

Stars In My Eyes

Kyungsoo has to admit, he’s really not surprised when Kai kisses him first. They’ve only known each other for about a month, but neither one of them have exactly been subtle about their growing attraction-especially not Kai. Kyungsoo’s been a bit coy with him, playing hard to get in a way. Pulling back when Kai pushes forward. He wants to see if Kai is serious about this, if he truly wants something or if he’s just along for a fun time.

What surprises Kyungsoo is just how Kai decides to kiss him.

Kai had gotten out of the bathtub a while ago, his hair’s still wet and gills linger on his sides, but his legs have come back and he’s wearing pants, thank god. Kyungsoo’s just finished taking a shower, and he plops down on the bed next to Kai and playfully throws his towel over Kai’s head.

“Feeling better after your bath?” Kyungsoo asks. Kai’s been quiet lately, he says he’s homesick. He’s been staying in the water longer, too.

Kai hums, drawing his feet under himself, tucking them in like a cat. “Little better.”

Kyungsoo starts toweling Kai’s hair, though he really doesn’t need it. He stops after a minute, flipping the towel up so he can see Kai’s face.

“What’s on your mind?” Kyungsoo asks.

“You,” Kai answers.

Kyungsoo grins widely. “Good things?”

Kai nods. “I really like you. I mean I always did but…now that I’ve gotten to know you more…I really like you. I don’t know how to say this, but thought you’d be…soft, almost. I thought people would baby you, fuss over you. Instead you’re the one who holds all the power. The punisher, Dyo Do Kyungsoo.” He grins, a little nervous.

Kyungsoo laughs. “You’re not the first person to think that.”

“It made me like you even more,” Kai says. “I want to know everything about you. But I also want you to know everything about me. You’re already halfway there.” He turns serious. “And…I never thought I would feel this way about a human. I never thought a human would be able to make me feel like…like I didn’t have to choose between water and land. The others, I mean, I know they wouldn’t either, but they don’t look at me the way you do.”

“How do I look at you?” Kyungsoo asks.

Kai’s eyes flick down to Kyungsoo’s mouth and he licks his lips absent mindedly. “Like there’s really no difference,” Kai says. “Like…whether I’m aquatic or human, your feelings really don’t change. You still look at me the same way.”

Kyungsoo feels like Kai wants to say more on the subject, but he’s holding back. It’s okay though, because Kyungsoo feels like Kai will tell him soon.

“Kyungsoo, can I kiss you?”

“Oh,” Kyungsoo says, “Thank you for asking.” He smiles. “Yes, you can kiss me.”

It’s just a peck, and somehow Kyungsoo expected that. that Kai wouldn’t be the type to shove his tongue down his throat right away. He has a feeling that it’s not going to last though.

That first night, all they do is kiss a few times. Then they curl up next to each other in Kai’s nest-he builds nests every night, at least ten blankets arranged in a soft burrow that he invites Kyungsoo to share-and they go to sleep.

The next night Kyungsoo is sitting beside the bathtub while Kai soaks, and he waits for Kai to ask what he wants to ask. It takes almost an hour. Kai starts to say something, then he stops himself. Then he starts again, and stops. After the first five minutes he gets so frustrated that it seems like he’s going to give up, then Kyungsoo takes a hold of his hands and leans in close.

“Look at me,” he commands softly. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ve got no place to be, and even if I did, it’s not like I stop caring about what you have to say when I leave. I will wait for as long as it takes for you to find the right words, okay? You just take your time and think about what it is that you want to say.”

So Kai does just that. He mutters to himself, he thinks silently for extended periods of time. He wraps his tentacles around Kyungsoo’s wrists, squeezing gently now and then as though to assure himself that he’s still holding on. Finally he finds the words.

“I can’t be the kind of being you imagined yourself with, I’m sure you never thought you’d kiss someone who was half aquatic. But what I love about you is that you just take it in stride, like it doesn’t even matter to you. I’m not like you but…the way you look at me and talk to me, it’s not like you’re trying to assure me that I’m the same person in spite of, this,” he gestures to himself, “But the look in your eyes just never changes at all. Does it really not bother you?”

Kyungsoo takes a moment to think about how best to phrase his answer. “I think you’re beautiful, when you’re human and when you’re aquatic. I can’t lie, seeing you like this takes my breath away. But it’s the same when you’re human too. Like last night when we were sitting on the bed, and you had my towel over your head and it cast just enough of a shadow that it made your eyes look…like stars.”

Kai’s breath catches in his throat, Kyungsoo can hear it. Kai clears his throat a little, and he sounds choked up.

“Kyungsoo…would you kiss me?”

Kyungsoo tangles on hand in Kai’s hair-it’s softer now that he’s been out of the ocean for a while-and wraps the other around his back, drawing him closer. He doesn’t kiss Kai like he’s thinking about kissing a merman, he kisses Kai like he’s thinking just about kissing Kai.

After that, it’s like the dams that were holding Kai back have broken open. There is no holding him back, he spends every waking moment trying to get into Kyungsoo’s pants.

That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it kind of feels that way. Kyungsoo has to say, he kind of likes it. Because the thing is, Kai isn’t pushy about it. It’s clear that he’s not trying to push Kyungsoo up against a wall and have his way, but his body language and the look in his eye screams ‘I want to have sex with you.’ His actions are all still the same, sweet Kai that Kyungsoo is familiar with, but there’s some hints of this new side.

When Kyungsoo is standing in the kitchen making dinner, Kai shuffles in behind him and slides his hands into Kyungsoo’s pockets, chin hanging over Kyungsoo’s shoulder, and kisses him every now and then. It’s almost innocent, but Kai’s hands resting on his ass is anything but innocent. It’s very sensual, not overly so but just enough that Kyungsoo knows Kai is not trying to be innocent. Or later when they’re watching TV, Kai will sit in Kyungsoo’s lap and snuggle into his neck, and to anyone else it might look like they’re just cuddling, but Kai takes Kyungsoo’s hand and places it on his hip, so that Kyungsoo’s fingers are just under the waist band of his jeans. And Kyungsoo is the only one who knows about Kai’s hand on his waist and how eventually Kai’s fingers skitter under his shirt.

After about a week of this they’re snuggling in bed-Kai sprawled across Kyungsoo, kissing his neck-when Kai says something surprising.

“I’m not familiar with human courtship,” He confesses, finally detaching himself from Kyungsoo’s neck. He finds Kyungsoo’s hand, laces their fingers together and squeezes. He sounds shy. “I’m used to…by now, we would have…you know.”

Kyungsoo raises an eyebrow. “Had sex?”

Kai blushes and nods. “I know you must want to,” he adds, “I can…I can sense it on you. You think about it. So why haven’t you done something about it?”

Kyungsoo finds that sentence a little curious. “Why me?”

Kai looks surprised. He folds his arms on Kyungsoo’s chest and rests his chin on his hands. “I’m not the type to make the first move,” he says. “I’m more submissive than dominant.”

“You kissed me first,” Kyungsoo says.

“That’s different though,” Kai tells him. “For me, at least.” He pauses. “I know humans put a little more value on sexual relations than my people do. We value it of course, but it’s not a big deal to mate-er, have sex with someone you don’t love. It’s understood as just…something that both parties enjoy. There’s some feelings involved but both are aware that no future relationship will come out of it.”

Kyungsoo hums thoughtfully. “I didn’t know that. I should have asked.”

“I should have told you sooner.” Kai says. “I’ve only mated once before. Obviously I wasn’t…like this,” he gestures to himself. “It was with another male that I’d known for a while. We were about the same age. It was a dominance thing.” Kyungsoo knows he must look shocked.

“It wasn’t like he forced me. It’s called play mating, or mating games. It’s done often once we reach sexual maturity, so we can kind of explore what we want from our future partners. Dominance can also be established this way, both within a social context and a sexual one. Not dominance like, this one holds all the power and this one is on the lowest rung. Maybe…leadership would be better? The dominant one is responsible for their own pleasure, but also for the more submissive partner’s pleasure as well. The dominant one has to be able to read the situation, know how to use their strengths and their senses in a way that benefits both partners. It’s about how well you can read a person. The better you are at mating games, the more likely you are to be able to read people without them needing to say anything. Sexual intercourse doesn’t really need to happen, sometimes it doesn’t. But physical interaction is very important, probably because we don’t do a whole lot of talking any way. I’m an anomaly, actually, I’m the only one who can speak when I’m in my aquatic form. The others, they communicate more in sensing each other’s emotions.”

“That’s a lot to take in,” Kyungsoo says. “But I understand what it is you’re saying. I didn’t know sex was so important. It’s kind of how you understand each other, right?”

Kai nods. “Like I said, sometimes it doesn’t happen. That’s another big part of it, knowing who wants to have sex and who doesn’t. When we’re young, it’s just about feeling good. It’s not until we get older that it’s associated with emotions and commitment. Lots of animal species have similar systems of sexual practice.”

“I’ve heard,” Kyungsoo says. “So, for you, are in the commitment stage? Is that what you’re looking for with this relationship?”

Kai blushes again. “Um…based on…how you make me feel…yes.”

Kyungsoo feels like his stomach is filled with butterflies. “Wow,” he says.

Kai grins at him, blush lingering. “You’re happy.”

“I am,” Kyungsoo agrees. “I am really happy. I just…I’m not ready to have sex with you just yet. Not because I don’t want to, but like you said…it’s about making sure we both enjoy it, right?”

Kai nods, looking confused. “I’m not worried about that. Are you?”

“Not so much worried as still studying,” Kyungsoo says. “Like, getting familiar with you, and your body, and what you like. We can talk about it, but since neither of us really has a ton of sexual experience, I feel like we don’t know everything ourselves, either.”

Kai’s eyes light up with understanding. “The other day, you kissed me here,” he points just behind his earlobe, “And that felt really good. I had no idea I would like it so much. Is that what you mean?”

“Yes,” Kyungsoo says. “This is kind of what you were talking about before, right?”

“It is,” Kai says. “So…I mean, when do you think you’ll be ready? We can’t possibly know everything without having sex.”

“True,” Kyungsoo agrees, “But sex isn’t everything. I think maybe, if one day I could make you come without even touching your cock, and then if you could do the same thing for me-”

He cuts off when Kai squeaks and covers his mouth. “What?” Kyungsoo asks.

Kai’s face is like a sunset. “You…you just said that so coolly!”

Kyungsoo smirks. “Did you like it?”

If Kai blushed anymore, steam would come off his skin. “A little.”

“More than a little!” Kyungsoo laughs, rolling them over and straddling Kai’s hips. “Oh my gosh, see? We just learned something else, you like when I talk dirty, and I like when you make cute little squeaking sounds.”

Kai lets out a sound somewhere between a laugh and a moan, and Kyungsoo dives down to kiss him, licking into his mouth. Kai groans and arches into him, tipping his head back.

“Kyungsoo…” he whimpers.

Kyungsoo pulls back, panting. “Yeah?”

Kai’s face is still flushed, his lips dark and swollen, his eyes glazed over. “I love you. I love how you make me feel so happy and safe and…and when you make me feel like this,” he laughs, “I feel so warm…it’s a good thing…I don’t know how to describe it but I really…I love it. I love you.”

Kyungsoo kisses him again. “I love you too,” he says between kisses. He pulls back slightly. “You said before, a while ago, that you were sure I couldn’t have imagined myself falling in love with someone like you, and even though I really didn’t, I’m so glad I did because you’re everything I could have ever hoped to find in another person.”

It hasn’t been long, but somehow it doesn’t matter. They just know, they’re perfect for each other.
