What are your top ten most played songs (In ITunes or LastFM), and what are your favorite lyrics from said songs?
~ So I'm going to fudge it a bit. I'm alternating the top 5 from my computer and from my iPod because I only have two CDs that I play on my computer so my top 10 is one of the CD's and because the iPod's play count is wrong, as is its record of what was most recently played.~
1. Rufus Wainwright-Hallelujah
"Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you/ She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah "
2. Amanda Palmer-Ampersand
"and I'm not gonna live my life on one side of an ampersand/ and even if I went with you I'm not the girl you think I am/ and I'm not gonna match you/ cause I'll lose my voice completely"
3. India.Arie-Ready For Love
"I will be patient, kind, faithful and true/ To a man who loves music/ A man who loves art/ Respects the spirit world/ And thinks with his heart"
4. Amanda Palmer-Leeds United
"but who needs love when there’s law & order/ and who needs love when there’s southern comfort/ and who needs love/ when the sandwiches are wicked and they know you at the mac store"
5. India.Arie-Intro
"This is in remembrance of our ancestors/ Sam Cooke and/ Marvin Gaye and/ Donny Hathaway/ And all that came before/ You opened up a door/ Cause of you/ A change gon' come……" (That's actually the whole song. It's short!)
6. Tracy Chapman-Sing for You
"Soft and low when the evening comes/ Holding you, sleeping in my arms/ I remember there was a time/ When I used to sing for you"
7. Dar Williams-Midnight Radio
"And you're shinin' like the brightest star/ A transmission on the midnight radio/ And you're spinnin', your new forty-fives/ All the misfits and the losers/ Well, you know you're rock and rollers/ Spinning to your rock and roll"
8. Amanda Palmer-Astronaut: A Short History of Nearly Nothing
"and you may be acquainted with the night/ but i have seen the darkness in the day/ and you must know it is a terrifying sight/ because you and i are living the same way"
9. Tracy Chapman-The Promise
"If you think of me If you miss me once in awhile/ Then I'll return to you/ I'll return and fill that space in your heart/ Remembering/ Your touch/ Your kiss/ Your warm embrace/ I'll find my way back to you/ If you'll be waiting/ If you dream of me like I dream of you/ In a place that's warm and dark/ In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart"
10. India.Arie-Brown Skin
"Where are your people from? Maybe Mississippi or an Island/ Apparently your skin has been kissed by the sun/ You make me want a Hershey’s kiss, your licorice/ Every time I see your lips, it makes me think of honey-coated chocolate/ Your kisses are worth more than gold to me/ I’ll be your almond joy, you’ll be my sugar daddy"
