Catching up

This isn't necessarily a bad thing though.

This always tends to happen to me when I go for a bit without a substantial update. I have things I've been doing but it's always a toss up on what to bother telling people about. So on that note, welcome to the update of random things. They won't be in any order and some of them might be interesting but mostly, it's just me babbling. Enjoy as best as you can.

First of all, I started a new writing project which isn't necessarily new so much as it's rewriting the last book I wrote for 3-Day Novel. I re-read it and realized that I didn't really say or do anything I had hoped with the material. Given that I only had three days to try to capture what I was saying, this isn't much of a surprise. The down side of this is that now I'm starting over and while I have something like a glorified outline in the rough draft, I know that it will end up being completely different. I hate to admit it but I'm actually kind of scared right now. Saint Vitus took me over three years and in that time, I got so comfortable in the story that I took for granted what it felt like to really start from the beginning of something again. It brings back all those weird doubts that you get when you have to create without really any idea of what you're doing. It's a little different with Downtown because I already wrote the book and know basically how that one will go and how it will end. It's just a matter of getting there now. This one is different and it's a little unnerving to be unsure again.

So when I'm not writing, I have been working on different things. Probably the most notable thing I'm currently working on is a knitted coat that I found the pattern for in the book Dominknitrix. Okay, I admit that basically bought the book for the title because I'm a nerd like that. Thus far it's going okay. There are a lot of stitches to work with because it's something you knit vertically. This means it's fast in that you don't have to wait to get to the right length but it takes a while to get through all those damn stitches. I'm looking forward to it though. It should make for a nice fall coat when I'm finished it. Here's just hoping that I finish on time now.

And on a completely unrelated note, I cut off all my hair last weekend. Well, I didn't so much as my sister did. Kayla started up at school again and I finally got her to cut my hair after waiting for nearly a year an a half. I found it funny that I asked for something specific and when Kayla did it, her teachers came over and totally corrected it into the exact thing I said I didn't want. Meh. It's hair and it grows. And aside from that, I still enjoy the cut so that's really all that matters. She's told me now that I'm not allowed to touch my hair with scissors again so I guess that effectively ends my career as a stylist right there. And by stylist, I mean butcher of hair.

This brings me to my actually career path and the price to be paid for it. I checked out the U of A website this week and they basically said "ready when you are" and let me know how much I owe them. It wasn't too bad but it's still a big chunk of money. In a way it's good. It makes everything feel a bit more real but I'm getting a little scared too. It's been a while since I was in school so I'm a little bit nervous about going back. I'm not even sure what the hell to think about it to be honest. It still doesn't feel like it's really going to happen but I suppose I've still got another month before reality crashes on me.

And that's been life for the past little while. Riveting it hasn't been but it's been fun nonetheless and in the end, isn't that really all you can ask for?
