And the top/bottom thinking is very interesting.　Japanese Vecchio fen tend to prefer Ray in the role of bottom though I don't know why.

I've never seen Ray as the emotionally bottoming one, but physically, I don't think it'd matter much for him.

I take it your seperating the physical form the actual so even if Ray was a bottom physically he'd be a top emotionally/pyschologically?

I tend to find I can see Benny physically bottom more but I don't know exactly why whether that is personaltiy or the fact it's Victoria on top clearly in VS. So in a way there is canon evidence to suggest that ;-)

Strangely I feel as if I have read more fics with Ray physically bottoming. I don't know if that is the case or if I just tend to remember those ones more because it doesn't quite fit with the way I tend to see things. Overall though it does seem Ray physically bottoms more.

I wonder if that's because Ray Vecchio fans prefer him to Fraser so out him in the physical botttom role to emphasise his gay sex credentials. He overcomes his homophobia by physically bottoming as it were. Or is it the old Mary Sue ploy of wanting Fraser to have sex with the writer do Ray becomes the Mary Sue? I don't know.

Yeah, I've always seen the physical as being separated from the emotional, but more often than not, writers tend to link physical positions with the emotional state of mind, which can then lead to some serious OOCness, but that's a different topic entirely. (Why isn't there a ds_rants? T_T

I like that idea and I agree sometimes ti doesn't work out. Hee hee ds-rants. Well there's a comm for everything else.

As for physically where Benny stands, I agree that he's more likely to take the bottoming role, because of the way it physically lends him into the role of being protected. While there isn't enough of a size difference for Ray to achieve the stereotypical blanketing, having Ray on top does serve to help concentrating all of Fraser's attention onto Ray and away from the rest of the world, thereby creating a physical and consequently emotional illusion of dominance. I believe Benny would use any excuse to get close to Ray and just stare like the love sick little puppy he is. And well, there is that saying about size of noses and...*cough*

I do think Ray could top form the bottom but then I can see Benny topping form the bottom by getting Ray to do what he wants as he can do the rest of the time.

Benny would be such a manipulative bottom. He knows all he has to do is bat his lashes at Ray and Ray will be putty in his hands and do whatever he wants/needs. But then again, I'm not sure Benny's skilled enough to know what he wants. I can see him developing into someone who can get creative in bed, but I think it'll take him a while.

on the top vs. bottom position of Ray and Benny in a relationship. Mostly I think it's not so much because the lack of differing preference of who does the pitching

I think I see Ray as more the pitcher and Benny as the catcher. For some reason my mind seems to think that Ray would be the one to top most, I think it has something to do with my observations from SLIR(, as well as other instances in the series-though mainly SLIR).

It's not just because Fraser seems to lack an ability to pick any romantic interest who is not brow beating him into a relationship, because Ray tends to go for strong, dominant women too, but because Fraser, when approaching the relationship, is very reluctant and cautious. I very much agree with you here. Victoria is very much the one in control in their relationship.

I personally found Fraser's "love" for Victoria questionable, since he keeps repeating only that he loves her but can't say why he loves her.I've never really considered that Fraser might not love
