I just put a call in to the vet and they said they have gotten a couple calls about the dry dog food and right now they are suggesting Hill's Science Diet D/D food for both cats and dogs. Bella's (our pup) Dr is going to call me back with a better home-made dog food recipe that we can use. I'll post the recipe when I get it.
I am just too scared at this point to open her new bag of dry and the product she is using IS Science Diet.
Our vet just called back and said Science Diet DD is a hyper allergenic diet and doesnt contain the wheat gluton that they think may be contaminated... an 8lb bag runs abour $21
For home made foods... basically they recommend: lamb/chicken/ground beef/turkey + vegetables such as carrots and peas + brown or white rice.
and mixing what whatever safe dry food you have already been feeding.
Use 8 quart stock pots. Cook oats. In another pot, cook brown rice and barley. Cool (to save time, cook in evening and cool overnight). Next day: Cut vegetables - use food processor. Using rubber gloves, combine all ingredients in a 25 quart stock pot. Shape into balls about 1/4 lb. each. Wrap and freeze. This recipe can be easily scaled down for smaller batches.
