Recently I've stumbled upon a Chicago artist by the name of Kerry James Marshall. At first I was like "Ooh?", and then I got hit over the head. Critical art at its best. Makes me want to stretch my own canvases and start painting again. I shall attempt to be unassumingly political... when I grow up, of course.

yeah i actually know jack about critiqueing art, but seriously, it is amazing to see a black person as the focal point of these images. i am so used to hockney and rockwell and a million others showing life/american life and painting in black people. this stuff is arresting. nice find =)

Prologue:
It's soooooooo good to hear you! I love the fact that this little electronic hyporeal string is leading toward you. Aha, I shall hold on to it!

He has a series of painting called "Lost Boys" that is very compelling. Along with "Beauty Examined". He doesn't stick to a formula that generates most profit. To me that's the only way to evolve.

It's strange how the depicition of a black person automatically gives a political overtone to a painting, which is impossible to ignore. His works emphasizes it. I was looking at the books on cultural identity and the city. He summarizes it both very well.

[end of rant]

P.S. I've missed you!
