just do it nisah! it's a first step to betterment, insyaAllah. and i was super conscious about whatever people have got to say (esp the non-muslims) but it actually went alright, no discrimination or anything yet. if they're your friends, they would really accept you regardless of hijab or not. and wearing it = one sin down. let it be a motivation for other good things. :)
