A/N: For Jaejoong’s Birthday ☺, written in first person (Yunho).
The first time I saw him he was broken, shattered and crushed. He looked like someone who desperately needed to be at a mental hospital. He constantly shivered and there was a scar that ran from his right eye across his right cheek. I had saved him from a bunch of bullies that were beating him up. I found out that he was in the school that I had just transferred to. I noticed he was a quiet kid and shivered more than normal people should shiver.
I was paired up with him for my science project. I honestly didn’t know what to think of it at that time. All of my friends were scared of him and some brave ones called him a freak. I didn’t think he was a freak. I actually thought he was a beauty. Yes a beauty, even though he was a boy, handsome just didn’t seem to fit.

I learnt of his name the first time he came over to my house to work on the science project. Kim Jaejoong. It was a pleasant name and it rolled off my tongue nicely. It was also the first time I heard him speak. He didn’t speak a lot but when he did I thought it was fascinating. His voice was quite husky but very melodious. I wondered what it would be like if he sang.

The second time he came over I learnt that he had tattoos. It was raining and he got wet in the rain. I lent him my shower and some clothes. My curiosity got the better of me and I peeked inside the bathroom. There was steam billowing everywhere but I took note of the tattoo that ran across his back.

Our science project had been finished the fourth time he came over. I was pretty impressed with his work. I found out he was quite intelligent and creative. We submitted our report and visual collage to our teacher. To my surprise we got top marks in the class. I was so happy with my A+. I looked on over at him when the teacher announced the top three marks. If read his facial expression correctly, he must have been as shocked and happy as me. I was glad and gave him a smile. He gave me a weak smile. Even though his smile was weak, it was absolutely breathtaking. I was glad that I was the only one in school that saw it.

The fifth time he came over to my house was for dinner. I told my mom how amazing he was as a partner. My parents took a liking towards him. After dinner we headed up to my room and I took this time to learn more about him. The most pressing question I had was Where did your scar come from? I asked him that but he didn’t seem comfortable so we just played a card game and watched some television.

I invited him over for dinner again. My parents was pleased to see him again. He helped my mother cook and I just stared admiringly. He had a horde of talents I didn’t know about. My mother was fawning over how delightful he was. Then it happened. My mother complimented him saying he was such a beauty. Everything from then on happened so fast. He suddenly stood up, his glass of water toppled and he just froze for moment before dashing out of the door. My mother looked at me worriedly and before I knew it I was running out of the door too.

I didn’t know why, but I was so worried. I knew something was wrong. “Jaejoong! Jaejoong!” I kept calling his name without knowing where he went. I ran all over the neighborhood crying out his name and looking for him. Some neighbors cursed at me but I didn’t care. Jaejoong was the only thing on my mind.
I ran and ran till I finally found him at the neighborhood park. He was sobbing quietly in his sleeve against a tree. Something in me broke. If his smile was breathtaking, his woeful face was earth-shattering. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen.
I crouched down in front of him and tapped his hand. His big watery eyes turned up and looked at me. My heart broke at the sight. When he realized who I was he quickly buried his face back in his hands. I sighed, knowing that I couldn’t break down his walls so easily.
I sat beside him and took his hand, letting him know I was here for him. To my surprise he grasped my hand. I smiled and listened to his quiet sobs. After a while his sobs quieted down. I turned and saw he was sleeping. His crying must have tired him out. I mused. I didn’t know where he lived so I decided to take him back to my place. I let go of his hand and slowly tried to stand him up. I was too clumsy so I dropped him. He landed on the grass softly but that was enough to wake him.
He rubbed his eyes with his fists and mumbled something along the lines of let me sleep a while more I thought that was adorable. I bent down and said “Hey, I’m going to bring you to my place. So if you want to sleep quicker hop on my back.” Jaejoong frowned but got on my back anyways. I sang a lullaby and soon enough he had fallen asleep again.
When I reached my place, my parents gave me questioning looks but I knew they were just as worried as I was. I settled Jaejoong into my bed and pulled the covers over him. He was in need of a good rest. I softly stroked his hair, knowing he needed comfort and familiarity. I had a lot of questions running through my mind. I knew my mother hit something at his core but I wasn’t sure what. I stroked his hair for the last time and went to ready myself for bed.
As I readied myself and settled in, I kept thinking. The only thing she said was that Jaejoong was beautiful, there was nothing wrong with being called beautiful… Right?
A/N: Happy Birthday Jaejoong! Next part will be posted the day after Jaejoong's birthday ☺ Comments are appreciated!
