Very whelmed by it tbh. Queen Charlotte was flawless and it should have brought her Best Actress at Cannes #2 but it didn't. I enjoyed Kirsten Dunst but I thought Charlotte was much better and also Alexander Sarsgard was terrible in his brief role, dear God. I liked it a lot less than I've liked most of von Trier's earlier films, but at least it ( Read more... )

LOL @ "whelmed." I was actually fairly impressed, which is surprising because I normally don't like Kirsten at all, but IA that Charlotte was probably better; her character undergoes such a dramatic transformation from beginning to end. Frankly I just can't believe she worked with Lars twice with good results; not many people could do that. I...barely noticed Alex's performance; I was just thinking "wow he looks good in a tux" and "lol cute, he's onscreen with his dad." Some of the smaller performances, esp. Charlotte Rampling, were so much more interesting that I guess I didn't notice. Eh, well, strange film.

lol I use "whelmed" so often and I find myself having to explain the reference like 9 times out of 10. And I like Kirsten and I thought she was good in this but yeah, Charlotte was so much better. I kind of wish Penelope or Olga Kurylenko had taken Justine but I do like Kirsten and thought she was good. LOL right @ Charlotte working with Lars? I love her so much; she's so talented and I love her ability to work with Lars. And Charlotte Rampling is so great ugh I wish she'd had a bigger role.
