A short German lesson

Have just been practising some German with a few 'helpful' translations from Ilya. Read on to be enlightened:

Guten abend! - Who is bent well?

Mein name ist Norbert Schicker und ich bin Deutscher - I am Hitler

Ich komme aus Potsdam in der Nähe von Berlin - I am Pol Pot in Berlin

Ich wohne jetzt hier in Leipzig - Have you got any lipstick?

Ist den Ilya immer so ein doofe Mann oder spricht er auch brave Wörte? Wenn er kein gescheite Wörte hat, müssen Sie ihn mit Maßband zum Schweigen bringen!

Yes, I did have to look some of those words up :$ I'm not sure you'll find 'doof' in a dictionary ;P

Lol, if I translated that correctly you're suggesting I gag Ilya? I found the word doof in the dictionary (both online and my own paper copy) to have a variety of meanings, from thick to nerdy to bovine :-p Funnily enough, I think all of those meanings could be accurately applied to Ilya!

'Doof' is used in southern Germany to mean 'stupid' in a more abstract sort of way, like 'stupid weather' or 'stupid time', but yes, many meanings, and it's a fantastic word because, even if you don't understand German, it's got that sense to it so you just know what it means :D And you have a much better dictionary than me!

'Doofi' is a really cool variation: it's like 'thickie' or 'nerd', I suppose. Affectionate too :) 'Blödi' is the less-affectionate form I think.

They don't appear to have a decent word for ducktape, as it's Gaffer-band, which is a bit obvious!
