Thoughts for Memorial Day 2011

As a nation, as a people
we Americans are so woefully inept
at waging peace
at using knowledge and wisdom
to resolve conflicts non-violently
with others whose purposes clash
with our own.
So deeply imbedded in our culture
and our psyches
are the strategies of militarism
the machinery of warfare and
the rusting myths of our patriotism
that we cannot
