2016 Garden, weeks 20 & 21

Aug 20, 2016 13:31

I'm a bit late this week.  Oops.

Box 1:  Not much change here.  I have one pepper that is almost ready to pick but otherwise, no new peppers.

Box 2:  Same.  We are in the hottest days of summer and things are alive but not producing much.  I am going to leave the tomato plants in place this year.  Last year I tried to rip out the old plants and put in new.  They all were disease ridden and died quickly.  These are healthy but need cooler temps.  We got that this week so I will keep an eye on them.

Box 3:  See box 2.  Also, not too keen on the lettuce remains.  I will pull them out and plant peas for the fall crop.

Box 4:  See box 2.

The herbs do not like it in this area.  Next year will be located differently.  And the sole zucchini seems to be done.  There are flowers but the leaves are wilting.  I keep looking for eggs but I haven't found any.  I think it is just tapped.  I read that I should be able to plant a fall crop so I may try that this weekend.

The egg plant is nuts!  I have taken 6 fruits off but I think it may be done.  I have found a white and black dust all over the leaves.  I can't find anything about it yet but I suspect I may have some pest infestation.  I'm going to try to trim back the bush.  It is shading out the sole cucumber plant.

I pulled the fennel.  But it doesn't look like the photos on line.  The roots look like Ood tentacles (Dr. Who reference for those who don't get it) and there is no discernable bulb.  And the greens are nuts!  I still don't know what to do with the thing.

And finally, my conjoined eggplant fruit has been picked.  It doens't look like a dog testicle any more.
Ok, that is it.  I need to get off my butt and head out into the world.
