I think it is my general lack of femininity that leads me to find things in the following manner. If, for example, I am looking for my lighter I take the following steps: 1. Stand in middle of room. 2. Look around wildly 3. Chant "Lighter... lighter... lighter..." 4. Look in handbag. Oh, there it is. If not, pocket.

I haven't tried the chanting approach yet, HP. I'm more of a room by room searcher.
However, as I've gotten older, I've found a new approach. Just go buy a new one. This only works with small things otherwise you will go broke. Also, be prepared to end up with people asking you why you own fifty lighters, all the same kind.
I'm sure if we thoroughly cleaned our entire house, we would end up with about 100 pairs of fingernail clippers and 5,000 pens.
