It was only after Arthur turned on his phone after flying into D.C. where he was meeting a contact did he listen to the voice mail and see the picture. He immediately made a beeline to departures to get on the next flight to Rio. He hadn’t recognized the man’s voice, but he could only assume it was someone that he had worked for in the past.

When Arthur landed in Rio, fatigued beyond belief, but angry and on edge, he looked around.

No one greeted him in person, but within an hour of arriving, Arthur received a text message from a blocked number. It read, "you should've died when you had the chance. Now she's going to pay."

Another photo of Ariadne followed soon after, and she looked even more beaten than before. Then an address was sent, leading to a warehouse in the factory district of the city.

It took a lot not to throw his phone against the wall in anger. Instead, he pocketed it and took a cab to a hotel close by to drop off his luggage and then another cab to the warehouse where he assumed Ariadne was being kept. Of course, Arthur didn’t go unarmed he had a Glock under his left arm in a holster under his jacket, a hunting knife tucked into his right sock, and a Bersa Thunder 380 tucked into the back of his pants as a last resort.

He knew more or less who had sent him the text and who kidnapped Ariadne. It must have been the person who had tried to kill him with the explosive. Arthur scolded himself for not being more cautious, but he was still new to all this. He needed to get his sea legs.

When he arrived, the place was empty, except for a folding chair in the middle of the floor, with a laptop sitting on it. There was a video feed on the screen, which may or may not have been a live stream, of a similar room with a similar chair. Two men had released Ariadne from her bonds, allowing her to fight back, but it was no contest - both men were twice her size, and while she had clearly done some damage to them - one had a split lip, the other was limping as though he'd been kicked in a rather sensitive area - it was inevitable that they would win the fight.

What was also pretty clear, was that she wasn't actually being held in the building they'd sent Arthur to. It may have been a building nearby, however, as the whole block was filled with similar abandoned warehouses.

A shot rang out then, shattering a window - Ariadne was clearly not the only one in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
