My parents did this once and while their experience was largely fine, be careful because you never know what kind of accidents a repo-ed car may have been in.

Not specific to LA, my friend has written up his negotiations for buying a car. That may prove useful.

thanks Jet. my mechanic is the toyota dealer because i have a new car. i haven't been sure if going to a used car dealer is a good idea or not - any thoughts?

we want something under $1500. prefer a toyota/honda - and it can be dinged up cause it is for M to learn on.

I’ve never bought from a used car dealer, mostly because I don’t know enough about cars to feel confident in what I’m buying. I’ve bought from an auction - but again, I took my friends father who’s a mechanic, because you buy “as is” and pay cash. The better auctions are way out of LA and towards San Berdardino and San Diego, but you can get a great car for cheap cheap. The whole deal was a pain in the ass but I got a 3 year old loaded Grand Cherokee with 10,000 miles for $5K that was valued at $23K. If you’ve got the time and know a little bit about cars or trust that a newer model is probably in decent condition, they usually happen once or twice a month on Wed/Thurs.
