The best music-related presents are always gig tickets, especially to some show that no sane person would think of buying them for - eg one that requires a rediculous road trip to get to :-) Of course this would be both expensive and tricky to realistically arrange...

But some sort of event-based present is always a great surprise. Stuff I remember other people sending bf/gfs to included: gigs, theatre shows, a professional massage(!), ghost tour of the town(!!), murder-mystery weekend(!!!).

If you wanna buy him something, think it through (or do some research!) and try to find something totally unexpected he'd like but wouldn't think of asking for. EG, someone bought me a mini theramin (weird electronic noise making thing used in lots of 70s music) for my birthday after i once mentioned how cool they are, and an ex-faltmate randomly sent me a book called "Deviant Ways" which is a bit of an in joke.

Well, when my friends have birthdays I usually make something myself. It's kind of cheesy, but it also gives it more sentimental value.

Maybe you could take a pottery class or buy some modeling clay and sculpt something for him. They have places with kilns and glaze that you can just walk in, sculpt it, glaze it, fire it up, then leave with a really cool looking clay figure.

Not sure if you have any there, though.

There's also the 'too deeply looked into' mix-tape (or CD, modernizing it).

Well darlin let's see, you can do a whole bunch of things to show someone you care for them or love them or whatever. You can see if he likes jewlery like a necklace or bracelet saying something like I love you or we belong together, be creative, think of something that would describe you two. There's also the art of tatooing(don't know if I spelled it right), but be aware it's not gonna come off, duh, you can both get tatoo's having a design of some sort that again describes you two, theres hundreds of shit you can pick out. It's also sexy and romantic but thats if you're up for it ( ... )
