Yeah I kinda don't remember most of the article except for the last paragraph, which summed up my issues with Avatar.

And the lemurs also had six limbs! I counted them! I think!

But I think one of my favorite things about Avatar is that it is about an alien world in space, and is thus complete scifi, and it is doing so incredibly well for a scifi flick that it should encourage other filmmakers and producers to start doing more scifi and fantasy. And, y'know, the visuals of EVERYTHING EVER.

Damn straight the writing wasn't original! :P

I feel like the only person on earth who hasn't seen Avatar yet, but I still know basically all about it, thanks to all the internet squeeing.

And maybe the other four-limbed mammals are native to different regions of the planet? Or maybe the Na'vi hunted them into extinction.

YES.

So much yes! d

I think the art director/Cameron/whoever was just all makes animals Alien! More Alien! Oh noes! Make the Na'vi like humans so we can connect to them! And no one really ever thought about that. That or they believe in Intelligent Design and never really thought about evolution.

But yes, for the sake of me liking the designs, let us say that the Na'vi hunted them into extinction.
