Wow. This is a really awesome request.

Good Day, Dresden Dolls (The Dresden Dolls)
Sing, Dresden Dolls (Yes, Virginia)
Two-Headed Boy, Neutral Milk Hotel (In The Aeroplane Over The Sea)

That's all I can come up with for now... I'll keep racking my brain :)

Thank you thank you thank you. I'll go hunt for them soon. I wanted to try to give some feedback of whether it fit the bill for me, if you care. Not that it really matters, as it's your musical taste, not mine so it really doesn't matter. But whenever I recommend a song to someone, I always like to know if they are as blown away by it as I am.

Interestingly, I only have one Neutral Milk Hotel song in my collection and it is the song I was listening to when I started the whole musical debate with myself this week.

I would love to know what you think of them :)

I haven't slept in over 30 hours, so when I'm a bit more with it, I'll try and think of some more.

I replied to someone else who replied to you. I listened to the Dresden Dolls last night and I could really love it. I don't think I heard the two you suggested because they weren't readily available, but I listened to some more of their stuff and it was great.

I really just don't think I'm on the NMH train though. I'm trying. It's just not...there...for me.

Get some sleep! That's not natural ;o)

  1. Get the entire album called Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress by, erm, Micah P. Hinson.
  2. Learn the backstory: Micah was raised in an extremely strict fundamentalist family in Memphis. When he was 16 he went to Texas and ended up married to a stunning model. Before he knew it, his whole world was falling apart: drugs, adultery, etc. This album is all about the aftermath of that.
  3. Put on headphones, close your eyes, and listen to this entire album straight through. You will likely be crying by the end. It's the only music that has actually had me sobbing in many years. (Ever?)

If you have problems finding it... I can send you an invitation to join eMusic. You'll get 50 free downloads. (I know it's there, because that's where I got it.) Just cancel your subscription if you don't want to keep it after those first 50. Email me on MySpace with your email address so I can send you the invite.

I might be the last person to have never heard of this group, but for you I will recommend the song "Fistful of Love" by Antony and the Johnsons. Also "For Today I Am A Boy."

My brother played this for me the last time I was over at his place and aside from being shocked that he listened to it, I loved it.

Antony is a bit weird. Mostly in a good way. But, yeah... Thanks. I have all the albums, but haven't really listened to it. Is there anything about your brother you should know? ;)

hahaha...my brother is the straightest man in america, and I mean that in the best way possible. He's completely comfortable with his sexuality and not the slightest bit homophobic or closed-minded...but, he's a big alt-country fan, so it always weird me out when he pulls random, weird artists out of his ass. If you had asked me to pick Antony out of a lineup of potential "Jay bands" it would have been a fail.

You've probably already heard it, but "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap is great. The first time I heard it, live at a concert, I nearly drowned in the emotion, and it's almost exactly the same on the album (which I was happy to discover).

Also, "The Moment I Said It," also by Imogen. It sounds like all the emotions of a break-up if they are diluted into song form. This one definitely has the whole "feel so hard you can barely stand it" thing.

I found them on youtube for you...
