There's No Need To Be A Starving ArtistlemasquegrisAugust 22 2009, 16:42:34 UTC
My Friend and Career Placement director of Ex'Pression told me a story about having to make ends meet between her gig and the Record Plant ending and a new one for a project studio that didn't start for 3 years. She needed to work, and not for pennies, so she saw an opening for a dental assistant, and charmed her way into that job. No experience, hates blood. hates blood and spit et al.
She started to help manage this studio & offer gospel/soul bkgd vocals on projects as needed a few years later, and Rick James was tracking. Middle of the night, his tooth started to hurt. He didn't want to leave. She fixed it. After that, Rick James insisted she could only deal with his mouth. Flew her out to meet him on the road several times just for that. She met a lot more creative people who hired her to work on various things...including her current job
