That sucks!!!!!!!!!!!1

Dude, if they have a guarantee for data backup and they wiped your data they can get in serious, serious trouble.

Call/write the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection and lodge a formal complaint against them - make sure you include everything ie. their motto and the fact that you lost study notes and very important personal files. You could be eligible for compensation and/or the computer service place could be fucked over royally.

It sounds extreme but thats what you gotta do to get a little justice in the retail/service area. Don't just think "theres no point now" - you might be saving lots of other people having to go through this.

Also, this is not your fault. It's Bluetech's fault. They didn't deliver on their company motto. You don't HAVE to backup your data - and I assume one of the reasons why you went to Bluetech or gave it the go-ahead was because of their motto. DOCEP takes false advertising very seriously (you already know I work in retail :-P).

Even though it won't be the same, I can burn you a copy of all of the photos that I have.

PS. I will bash the incompetent computer store for you :/~

Sorry to hear about all of that :(

Yea but it was under extended warranty. They tell me now it's a faulty motherboard. They're also replacing the monitor because the hinges are stiff. They said they might end up giving me a cheque for a new computer. Heh. I still want six grand for my data loss though.

Nah they didn't. I actually noticed they didn't have any warnings about data loss because I've seen other places put them up. In fact, they did the opposite, the guaranteed to back up data.
