Yes, the Judoon gave me some Hitchhiker memories too. There is so much awful poetry in the universe, friend. I know what you mean about expectations. I was expecting Doctor Who goodness, just you know, not so much in terms of the assistant/companion quality. I liked Martha for the same reasons you did. It's like an LJ tag it with the Who. I checked and you are correct, spunk is vulgar slang for semen, but I have never heard that. If I have, I wouldn't have noticed, and I've watched British TV since I was a kid.

One of the things I like about Tennant is his sense of fun on the show. It's not meant to be taken seriously. Christopher Eccleston was too heavy on the drama. I have to admit that I didn't miss Rose, probably due to the fact that the introduction to the new character was handled well. Also, Freema is charming, and different enough in background and such that one doesn't feel compelled to make comparisons between Rose and Martha.

Now, that is a neat website.

Things to do while the database freezes:
Look up local tv listings for Doctor Who. *checks off*
Celebrate (again) at finding of my copy of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, the search for which was long and frustrating, not to mention that Fenny, the cat with with a HG namesake, totally ignored any and all rummaging activities.

Ever considered just sitting back and twiddling your thumbs while you wait for the database to unfreeze? :P

I'm sure the pleasure of rereading the Hitchhiker's Guide will make the frustration worthwhile. *g*
There will be a new episode this Friday.

First, I suppose I should clarify that it was one of those several minute long freezes, and all I needed to do was mark my spot so I could sign off and leave for the day. :)

And second, it would have been physically impossible, not to mention mentally challenging, to sit there without doing something. I inherited this need to do (and no, thumb twiddling doesn't cut it) from my mother. Even if I have five minutes to wait for someone to pick me up, I will grab a book that fits in my bag and then sit reading on the front porch or will walk around the house surveying the garden or unload what I can from the dishwasher or fiddle at the piano. Just can't sit still.

Anyway, that is a nice prospect.

Apparently, it doesn't air until Sat/Sun (12:30 am) here....if it's even the same episode. Hmm...
