That does make sense. I feel like Eames' reasons were much more apparent than Goren's--maybe because D'Onofrio's acting style is more in the realm of scenery-chewing, so he's uncomfortable with detachment? Or the script failed to back up that detachment as concretely as it could.
I don't see detachment. I honestly thought the lack of uniform was about his differentness...not detactment. To drive home the point or foreshadow that he wasn't a part of that cop world anymore and in a way never really was even as an officer. He never fit into that world completely of the politics and such. Which really makes the whole him supporting the FBI all the more unbelivable...which is why it's painfully obvious these writers were just thowing crap together with little thought to subtext or staying true to who the characters are.
Plus I think it's obvious in the last scene that he wasn't "trying" to get himself fired...he resigned himself to the fact, but I don't think he wanted it. If that's right then why not just write him resigning. Sorry...I might be projecting here as I know several people who have had issues with this person who wrote this post.
It seems like a whole lot of people have had "issues" with a whole lot of people/posts since Loyalty aired. I've never witnessed so much d.r.a.m.a on LOCI boards as I have in the past week. I guess the pain of losing Goren/Eames is driving it, but the "community" seems to be coming apart at the seams. I actually deleted my bookmarks to the various boards because of all the unpleasantness. :(
I haven't been to the boards in a long time...I really avoid them. The only one I really liked is closed now anyway. :( majorcase-ci was the best monitored and had the best dicussions.
I just don't understant why people can't discuss different POVs without getting nasty or holier than thou about it.
Regarding Goren not wanting to get fired: I don't know. I think both he and Eames, while not wanting to leave their careers, were feeling at the end like "WTF is this, anyway?" They both wanted to just be able to do their JOBS....but the politics involved in Major Case (and maybe the department in general) was allowing them to do that less and less. So what choice did either of them have really
( ... )
i'm not sure if i agree either. the whole plot royally sucked and the writers seemed like they didn't care that these were characters we've known and loved for going on 9 years. i'm glad they had those final moments and that sweet kiss and hug.
I kind of wonder if the Kiss was something VDO did on the fly...just from the surprise on KE's face...could just be good acting on her part, but she looked genuinly surprised.
