So, this morning I watched Treasure of the Sieara Madre.  And do you know what is great about that movie?  Ok, yeah, it's a Humphrey Bogart is in it, but that's not what I'm talking about.  It's a Western, in a way and it's Action.  It's an action film.  These bums wanna strike it rich, they go out to the desert and guess what...they find gold!  ( Read more... )

I have to agree with you. I cannot tell you how many movies i've had ruined by the token sex scene. I understand that sometimes a physical relationship is necessary to further the plot. But so often it is not only unnecessary, but distracting and obnxious. Even when it's not an action movie a sex scene can still screw it up. For example, that dancing movie... uhm... shoot. The one with the really cute boy.... the one where she makes it into the ballet school but isn't very good and she ditches the cute nice boy for the not so cute ass famous guy... Whatever. They added that sex scene and I almost walked out of the movie. IT didn't fit. A kiss would have not only sufficed but worked a whole hell of a lot better. Point of this comment- sex scenes are overrated and I don't think they sell as well as hollywood likes to pretend. I'll go rent that movie.

Most movies are made to make dollars. Dollars are made by getting the most people into the seats. Therefore, movies are made to appeal to everyone and too many movies try to have "everything," including emotional/physical relationship subplots that contribute nothing to the story. Most of the best movies have very simplistic storylines. I can think of quite a few movies that leave out love altogether, but not many of these would be patronized by women and young girls.

I completely agree! Why do you need a chick? If they plot is great, and the acting is great, who needs the love story in the background.

Take "Charade" with Audrey. It's a great story. Take out the fact that they fell in love, that's not important. The actual story is important. Her husband is murdered, and there is mystery around the death. There's money missing and he's a suspect. People are after Audrey because they think she has it.

Why does she have to fall in love with the man she thinks is lying to her? Why is that even remotely important?

Anyway, I dunno where this was going... The point is that I agree with you.

And randomly... I didn't get this update on my friend's page. Strange. At first I was like, "Um... Did Elizabeth delete me from her friends?" But, hooray, no.
