Are you planning to pick up a new SIM card for your time in London? I haven't been to Europe since before I carried a cell phone either, but all the advice I've heard is to be really wary of international roaming with a US phone.

The person who gave me the best advice (Nathan Tenny, who earns a living doing this stuff) seemed to think that as long as I did not do ANY data stuff I would be OK. I worked out the roaming thing with my carrier beforehand; by our calculations it would be cheaper just to "go ahead and roam" (thank you B52s) than to upgrade to a more expensive "international traveler" plan just for the trip. Even that would have raised my bill by only about $50/month.
