The great residency search has been broadened in geographic area due to a limited number in the Midwest.

The problem? Trying to figure out where I might be happy for 5-7 years is hard. Vacation and sightseeing is one thing; there's no promise of commitment there. Obviously the expected locations are at the top of the list, but when it comes down to ( Read more... )

I have to admit that mr_co's idea of residency in Hawaii was not the worst one he's ever had. (c;

I'm not really sure if it got dropped from the list or not. I still like the idea of living there, but I guess the program isn't that great? A couple places on the west coast have been added- San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. It is kind of funny the way that we kept trying to sell eachother on locations.

Have you looked at Reno? UNR is supposed to have a great medical school, so I bet there are some good opportunities here. And, although you're far away from family, you do have a friend here... and with us all in 1 town, we have at least a 15% chance of getting Dork Boy to come visit! And we're really pretty close to San Fran and Sacramento....

Actually, we're looking at 3 in the Bay area, so we could be pretty close! I don't know if there were any surgical programs in Reno, though. Med schools and residency programs don't always go hand in hand.

The Bay area would work... we could meet for the occasional weekend trip! We could have Girls Time when Marco has to work! And since that's not "the desert" Dork Boy would probably visit you with his new bride. (Side note: I've had a full dozen nosebleeds since I got back from my time at home. It's the only down-side to the lack of humidity.)

I really like the idea of the bay area as a back up plan - just need to sell Mr_co on it.

Do you know how much residents work? I think there would be plenty of time for girl te.
