The good news is that dr_co and I found on Wednesday that we'll be having a girl in September. I'm really very excited about this, but at the moment sad is winning ( Read more... )

I am coming out of stealth-lurk mode specifically to say that ... I totally understand. I wasn't close with Allison either, and I probably haven't seen her since H.S., but it's difficult not to be struck by such a tragedy. I suppose, in a small way, we are lucky to have been spared a death in our graduating class for this long. But that is not much consolation.

But, in the same vein of complex, conflicting emotions--a big congratulations to you and Marco! Keep LJ posted so lurkers like me can keep in touch! :-)

There's nothing I can say to make this any better, so I'll just let you know that you, your friend, and her family are all in my thoughts right now.

Also, if it would be helpful, I talked to dayzdark and he said that if you like, we can come up to Omaha for a long weekend sometime in August to keep you company and help out with pre-baby preparations, if you'd like. (c:

Marco swapped schedules, so he'll be doing KC in April/May 2012, but I'm still up for you coming out for a long weekend. :<) You can get to see our house, help with last minute stuff, and enjoy an Omaha summer!

First off, YAY for a girl! For the past few years, everyone I know has had boys. But you're the third friend I know who is having a girl this year, so maybe the trend is turning around.

What a sad situation with your friend and her family. (That doesn't seem sufficient, but I can't think of what else to say. :( ) I remember a few years ago, someone from my class at St. Olaf was killed, and even though I didn't know her well, it struck me hard. I can only imagine how much worse it must be when her situation mirrors your own (as regarding pregnancy). It must add so much the fear that comes with bringing a new life into the world.

I'll be thinking of you and your friend's family. *hugs*

I'm sorry to hear about your classmate and her daughter. It is strange and scary to hear about someone dying in childbirth since it is (thankfully) so rare in this day and age.

Congrats on the good news, though! :)
