The CD(Central District)

I know I always talk about how gentrified my neighborhood has become over the last 7-8 years but I really have a hard time seeing it as the same neighborhood. My family seems to stay put while almost everything around us changes. There's an interesting article in The Stranger this week that talks about the role of crack in the CD (a neighborhood ( Read more... )

i hate change. i can only imagine how hard it is to see your neighborhood change so much. i can feel that things change around here so fast, but i don't have the memories of growing up in a place and having such a concrete image about it for so long. weird. good luck reconciling it.

Thanks. I'm sorry you always have to listen to me bitch about it... I guess I'm just trying to figure out what it all means. Especially because I like many of the stores and places that are showing up in my neighborhood. I really don't mind having a Trader Joe's a couple blocks away...but it comes at a cost.

How's work going? Did the beans turn out okay last night? I'm being a bum and just working on my americorps application while hanging out in a coffee shop. I have been here since 9 and they still haven't kicked me out. BU-YA (sp?)!!

I keep trying to eat this silly pickle but i hate pickles... !yeah exciting life!

i would probably spell it boo-yah. but that's neither here nor there. i actually have a few minute-post lunch break between projects. i'm helping mike write some one pagers about projects in yemen at 2pm. th beans turned out okay. could have been better, much like everything i cook. WHY are you trying to eat a pickle? i certainly hope you haven't become more masochistic. ill just call you picklekistic.

no worries about bitching. i've done plenty of it lately. all i know about neighborhoods is that come september they're going to have to pry my cold-dead hands off of the lower haight. i haven't been to trader joe's yet!!

I miss you too. I need to call you soon. Are you free this evening?

As for picklistic, I keep hoping that if I eat pickles often enough I'll start to like them--they seem like they should be good.

*hugs* i haven't seen much of the CD lately but i know what you're talking about. and when garfield gets redone it's never going to be the same in my opinion.

Everything is changing around here and once Garfield is redone it will be the final touch so to speak. If you go along 23rd it's almost all townhouses and condos.

You should check out the article in the stranger that I posted if you get a chance... you just might be the only other person on LJ who would actually appreciate it. If you read it, tell me what you think.

i don't entirely know what to make of that article. it is on the one hand unhappy with the change in the CD but also condescending to what the CD was... or at least i feel that way with some of the bits about the crack addicts ( ... )

Yeah, the tone of the article bothered me too. It's a strange feeling isn't it... feeling that the place you grew up in doesn't really exist anymore.
