Yeah - there are some holidays I really like, but Christmas has never been one of them. I enjoy the lights, and the feeling that it is somehow important, but the whole commercialism, and the idea that if we don't sepnd we are being bad Americans, is disgusting.

I do not love holidays in which I try to do too much. On the other hand, I love holidays where we focus on one or two big things and enjoy those. Perhaps if you make an effort to create one or two holiday traditions with your family (something that you will eat each Christmas, a movie you watch or only giving gifts that cost under $10), you will make it a holiday you look forward to. I know lots of people who don't like Christmas, but it generally comes with peppermint ice cream, eggnog and the movie "Holiday Inn", so I'm happy. And yes, a split household sucks ass. In fact, I think only twelve years of gallstones rivals the crappiness of joint visitation. Four years of neurological damage doesn't even come close. Of course, my parents lived pretty far apart (while still being in the same general area) and my dad was a huge flake, so I spent tons of time in the car and could never get anywhere on time.

Its a pinchy year man, but it doesn't actually require tons of cash to make a decent Holiday. Especially when your kid is still very young. My mom used to hit garage sales for what ended up being a lot of my presents. Its works pretty well.
