Notes: My first AxA fic. It totally went a different direction than what I intended. Why??
Of all the places that one would expect a powerful and wealthy man like Asami to be having a negotiation in, it certainly wasn't a pet shop. But yet, here he was, in his designer suit and the trademarked ultra-seme-smirk on his face, having a face-off with his opponent, while the poor store employees cowered in fear in a corner of the shop.
"I want this cute brown one," Akihito fumed, arms wrapped protectively around a puppy, as he glared at his lover.
"What can that pathetic little fur ball protect you from?" Asami questioned. "Now this one here is a gem of a dog." Asami gestured to the large Doberman sitting obediently by his side.
Akihito stared at the seemingly docile dog that Asami pointed to. Farce, his mind screamed. Just fifteen minutes ago, this same dog was ferociously barking and gashing his sharp pointy teeth at them. Asami had taken one look at the raging beast and asked, or rather ordered, the store employee assisting them to open the cage. Completely ignoring the poor man's frantic warning that the dog was yet untrained and would ripped him to bits. Asami, the suicidal idiot, had walked into the animal's enclosure. While a frantic Akihito screamed at him to get his butt the hell out of there.
However, just as Akihito was sure that the monster masquerading as a dog was going to maim his insane lover, Asami in a low and commanding voice had said, "Sit." And by some freak of miracle, the monster had actually obeyed. Figures that even a crazy dog wouldn't dare to oppose Asami.
So here they were now, standing in the middle of the pet shop, trying to decide which dog they were going to purchase.
"You said that we could get a pet." Jabbing his finger in the direction of the Doberman, Akihito said, "That monster is definitely not a pet! It's a killing machine!" He could see the store employees, who were huddled in the corner behind Asami, nodding their heads in union. Lifting the puppy in his arms up, he said, "Look at this guy here. Isn't he just adorable?" The little brown puppy in his arms gave a cute little yap, as if in agreement. Akihito's face broke into a wide grin and rubbed his cheek against the dog. He got a wet scratchy lick in return.
Asami's eyes narrowed threateningly at the dog. How dare that impudent animal licked his Akihito? He was the only one who had the rights to do that.
As if sensing the danger to its well-being, the pup in Akihito's arms gave a little shiver and tried to barrel its way back into the safety of Akihito's embrace.
"Teiou here just looks a little imposing," Asami reasoned. "But he is well-behaved and can even protect our home." Asami petted Teiou on the head.
"Teiou? You named that monster already?" Akihito exclaimed in disbelieve. He could have swore that he just saw the monster-dog gave him a dog-equivalent of a smirk at Asami's comment. "And what do you mean by well-behaved? That monster was gashing its fangs at us just a while ago! And Choco-Banana here can protect our home too."
Asami raised an eyebrow. "Choco-Banana?"
"It's my favourite flavour of Pocky," Akihito informed, a blush on his face.
"And how would you expect that fur ball to protect our home? By hitting intruders with beams of cuteness and hope they get incapacitated by how adorable it is?" Asami mocked.
"A flea couldn't even enter that fortress you call a home. So I don't see why it is necessary to have a guard dog," Akihito argued, hugging Choco-Banana in his arms tightly. He had fallen in love with the little brown puppy the moment he laid eyes on it. He was not going to let it go without a fight.
Asami looked at his own cute but stubborn little pet in front of him. He could ignore what Akihito wanted but that would lead to a very unhappy lover. And an unhappy Akihito would be a trouble-prone Akihito. On the other hand, if he gave Akihito what he wanted, he would end up with a happy Akihito. And a happy Akihito means an affectionate Akihito, which would lead to a happy and satisfied Asami.
So Asami did the one thing that he never did before. He offered a compromise.
"We will get you that thing-"
"Choco-Banana," came the interruption. A pause. "Really? Choco-Banana can come back home with us?" Akihito asked, unable to believe what he just heard.
"Yes."
"Oh thank you!" A delightful Akihito threw himself at Asami, giving him a hug. Asami smiled and wrapped his arms around his lover, enjoying the feel of his Akihito in his arms.
"We will also be getting Teiou," Asami continued. The person in his arms stiffen.
"What?" Akihito pulled back. "You can't! That monster will eat my Choco-Banana alive." Akihito hugged Choco-Banana protectively. He could just imagined coming home to the sight of Teiou licking its paws, while tuffs of brown fur lay scattered around the house.
"He wouldn't," Asami said.
"How would you know?" Akihito countered.
"Because he listens to his master. If I tell him not to, he wouldn't," came the smug reply. "It is either we get both Teiou and that pup or nothing at all. Your choice Akihito."
Akihito pouted as he contemplated his situation. He really wanted Choco-Banana, but didn't want to risk him being Teiou's snack. But then again, he had seen how that monster-dog had obeyed Asami. It was like another Suoh or Kirishima, with the way it followed Asami's orders to a T.
Reluctantly he came to a decision.
~
As soon as the door opened and he was put on his feet, Choco-Banana raced around his new home. Sniffing various items as he familiarized himself with his new surroundings. The cute puppy was a ball of energy, darting about here and there. On the flip side, Teiou was a stoic presence by his master's side, obediently following his master around, as Asami gave orders to his underlings to store the various items they had just purchased in their respective places.
Akihito kept one wary eye on Asami's dog, not yet fully trusting that it wouldn't eat his Choco-Banana the first chance it got. He was distracted when a brown fur ball launched itself into his lap and began licking his face. Smiling, he lifted Choco-Banana up into the air. "You like your new home Choco-Banana?" he asked, getting a chirpy bark in reply. Grabbing the ball that Asami had purchased from the pet shop, he threw it, laughing in delight when Choco-Banana bounced off him and raced after the ball.
Seated on the sofa, Asami had a smile on his lips seeing the joy on his Akihito's face. He couldn't fathom what was so good about that dog; Teiou was miles much better. But he figured that getting that pup was worth it, if it made his Akihito this happy.
The next day, Asami, together with the two dogs were in his limo on their way to Sion. Akihito knowing that he couldn't leave his Choco-Banana home alone with Teiou (he was sure that Teiou would pulverized his poor baby), had spend the night convincing Asami (with a nurse outfit and cat ears) to bring Choco-Banana to Sion with him. Asami agreed but with the condition that Teiou will go along too. Something about Teiou keeping an eye on his Choco-Banana. Which kind of defeats the purpose in him convincing Asami to bring Choco-Banana to Sion.
But Asami was adamant about not leaving Choco-Banana home alone to create mass chaos, which was understandable. Considering Choco-Banana had chewed on Asami's favourite bedroom slippers and pooped in his Gucci leather shoes, all with the first two hours upon his arrival at his new home.
Figuring that there will be people there in Sion to at least rescue Choco-Banana from Teiou if need be, Akihito had no choice but to agree. After all, it was better than the alternative of leaving Choco-Banana and Teiou alone together, with no witness or help in sight.
Upon their arrival at Sion, while the employees all cooed over the cute little puppy, they were quite rightfully wary of the menacing Doberman. When one brave (and foolish) employee had attempted to pet Teiou on the head, he was rewarded with a growl and a snap that almost took his hand off. After that display of violence, none dare ventured near the dog. Even Suoh and Kirishima maintained a distance from the new pet of their boss.
The people at Sion soon realised that the dogs took after the characteristics of their respective owners. Choco-Banana was friendly but chock-full of mischief. Frequently getting into trouble. He was confined to their boss's office but always found a way to escape from it. Once, he was found stuck in a ventilation vent of one of the rooms on the lower levels. Creating a minor panic, while the employees frantically tried to figure out how to get their boss's lover's precious pet out, before their boss realised that it was missing. Nobody knew how the little puppy got in there in the first place.
Teiou was, on the other hand, a little like the dog version of Asami. He had claimed one of the sofas in Asami's office as his territory and heaven forbade if anyone but Asami tried to sit on it. Even when he wasn't using the sofa, nobody dared to rest their butt on it because the beast would track them down and bite them in said butt; should he sniff out any scent that wasn't supposed to be there. The poor man, who was made an example, was still on sick leave at home. Unlike Choco-Banana, Teiou was given free rein on the floor, where Asami's office resided, and spent his time roaming the area. Employees gave him a wide berth whenever he approached.
The dog was a danger to all except Asami, Akihito and probably Choco-Banana. One of the employees swore that he saw the little pup stole a large piece of prime steak from Teiou's dinner dish, and all the beast did was to continue eating his meal. And another two employees had gossiped that they saw Choco-Banana performing the suicidal act of pouncing on a napping Teiou. Teiou had awoken up with a fierce growl but had went back to sleep when he saw who the culprit was. And Choco-Banana, the pup with no survival instinct, had kept on repeatedly pouncing on Teiou. Making the employees at the scene fear for the little pup's life. However, all Teiou had done was got up and jumped onto the table, putting himself out of reach of the pup, and promptly went back to sleep. The last and only person, who had accidentally woke up Teiou (by slamming the door), had ran screaming for his dear life.
It was two weeks after Teiou and Choco-Banana first came to their new home, when Akihito suggested that they brought the dogs out to the park. Seeing as how Choco-Banana was still alive and barking (and getting into more mischief everyday), Akihito wasn't as wary of Teiou as he initially was. The park that they went to was one that catered to dog lovers. Here, the dogs could run freely, without their leashes restricting them.
Once at the park, Choco-Banana sped off, running wildly and yapping in delight. Teiou seemingly too dignified to be seen running, kept at the heels of his master.
"Aren't you glad we got Choco-Banana?" Akihito asked his lover, laughing at the sight of Choco-Banana chasing after a butterfly.
Wrapping an arm around Akihito, Asami replied, "I got to admit, he kind of grows on you."
"See, I knew you would come to lo-"
"Like warts," Asami continued, a smirk on his face.
Akihito glared. "You just don't know how to appreciate cute things," he accused.
Asami lifted an eyebrow. "I do. Just our definition of what is cute seems to at odds with each another. I don't find mischief-making fur balls cute. But I do find photographers with a penchant for getting into trouble adorable," Asami said, kissing a blushing Akihito.
A loud bark of distress and a fierce growl snapped them out of their kiss. Asami and Akihito broke apart to find Teiou gone from their side. Looking around, Asami spotted Akihito's puppy about to be attacked by a large bull-dog. Teiou was speeding towards them.
"Choco!" Akihito shouted in despair, running towards his dog. His arms were gripped and he was pulled back by Asami. "Asami, let go! I've to save Choco!"
"Aki, stop," Asami said calmly but firmly. "That dog could attack you if you approach it." Hugging a struggling Akihito, Asami pointed out, "Look. Teiou is doing just fine rescuing your pup."
It was a totally one-sided fight; the bull-dog was clearly on the losing end. It couldn't even be called a fight. A more appropriate word would be torture. It got so bad that Asami was kind of sorry for the other dog. But then again, who told it to attack Akihito's pup.
"Asami, tell him to stop," Akihito pleaded. "Teiou is going to kill it."
Sighing at how soft-hearted his Akihito could be, Asami called out, "Teiou, cease."
Teiou heeded his master's order but not before giving a last bite to his victim, who immediately began limping away in relief. Turning towards the pup shivering in fright, Teiou slowly approached it and gave it a comforting lick. A mass of brown fur began yapping and snuggling itself into Teiou's side.
Running up to the dogs, Akihito reached out to hug Choco-Banana. He was warned off with a growl from Teiou. "Stop that," he ordered, as he attempted to once again retrieve Choco-Banana, only to be greeted with yet another warning growl. "Asami, come here. Your dog is not letting me near mine," Akihito said in frustration. He wanted to comfort his precious pet but for some unexplainable reason, Teiou was refusing to let him touch Choco-Banana.
Strolling up to where his lover and their dogs were, Asami took in the scene. "Teiou, let the pup go," he ordered. Asami refused to call Akihito's pup by that ridiculous name; a name that reminded him of that wonderful time in Hawaii with Akihito, where they had spend their days relaxing and enjoying various chocolate covered fruits in bed.
Asami frowned when Teiou did not immediately obey and clearly hesitated before conceding to his order. As soon as Teiou moved away, Akihito carefully picked up Choco-Banana, checking him for injuries. "Asami, we need to go to the vet's," Akihito said. "Choco-Banana wouldn't stop shaking."
Kneeling down, Asami asked, "Is he hurt?" Sharp golden eyes giving the dog an once-over.
"There isn't any visible injuries but just in case. We should have the vet look at Teiou too."
Asami knew that both dogs were fine, or in Akihito's pup's case, going to be fine. But wanting to reassure his worried lover, he immediately call for his car to take them to the vet.
As Asami had predicted, Choco-Banana made a full recovery and was soon back to his usual mischievous self. Akihito, now fully convinced that Teiou would never hurt his baby, had agreed to occasionally leave both dogs at home. A piece of news that had the employees of Sion cheering over. Though they were going to miss the naughty little pup, it was far better for everyone's well-being that the boss's Doberman was not there too often. It was akin to there being another Asami around.

Asami stared as Akihito came into his office, a large golden retriever by his side. "Akihito, what is that thing?"
"Don't be silly. You know that it is a dog," Akihito said. "It's Kou's dog. He's on a business trip so I am looking after it for two days." Rubbing the dog on the neck, he continued, "And I thought that it would be a good idea for Choco-Banana and Teiou to interact with other dogs. He's really friendly."
"Friendly," Asami mumbled. Crossing his arms, Asami said, "I hope that that dog can at least protect itself in a fight."
"What? Why would he need to fight?" Akihito questioned.
Staring at his lover, Asami just smirked and said, "You will see."

Teiou narrowed his eyes. His master's pet had brought a yellow furbag into his domain. He wanted to maim the intruder but he had noticed the warning gleam in his master's eyes. So as long as the yellow furbag kept his distance, he would let it live. Resting on his usual spot by his master's chair, Teiou frowned as he saw the little pup approached the furbag.
Choco-Banana pounced around the newcomer. "Hey hey, where are you from? Wanna play? Wanna play?" he barked, excited at having a new playmate. Teiou was big and strong but he didn't like to play much.
Rufus gave the bouncing pup a glance-over. A bit too young for his taste but had the potential to be dog-worthy. He smirked (as much as a dog could smirk in a play-boyish way) and moved closer to the pup, giving it a little lick on its nose.
Across the room, Teiou sat up, staring fiercely into the direction of the two dogs.
Yapping in delight at the lick given, Choco-Banana playfully gave a lick back, barking in joy when Rufus pressed himself onto his smaller body and began licking him all over. "It tickles," Choco-Banana barked happily. He liked being licked but Teiou refused to do it often, claiming that only cats do so. Choco-Banana had once wondered what cats were, but now knew that it meant the nice brown haired one, who always give him hugs and food, and the nasty big one, who Teiou called master. He knew because he had sneaked into the nice one's room once and saw them licking each other all over. He was a smart little pup after all.
Rufus was enjoying himself with the clueless pup, when he felt the fur on his back stood up. He could feel an absolutely frightening killing aura directed at him. A voice from behind him barked, "Pup, go and get the ball."
Choco-Banana stick out a tongue. "Don't wanna! I am having fun!"
"You like to play ball don't you? Furbag here will play with you. Won't you Furbag," The voice ordered.
Tilting his little head to the side, Choco-Banana decided that it was a good idea. He liked to play ball! "Ok," he barked as he wiggled out from under Rufus and run to find his favourite blue ball. He was sure he left it in the room with the big bowl of water that sometimes made a whooshing sound.
Rufus swallowed a whine. He was afraid to turn around. "Look, I didn't know that he's yours," he barked. He was so sure that the large and intimidating Doberman was not interested in the little pup. After all, when he had first arrived, the large dog was just lying on the floor ignoring the little one yapping around him.
"Doesn't matter what you know. You touched what's mine, you die," the large dog growled breathing down his neck. "Turn around."
Shivering with fear, Rufus slowly turned around and was face with a teeth baring Teiou. Teiou pounced on the golden retriever, a large strong paw pressed against his neck. "Usually I would tear someone like you into strips of jerky. But the little one doesn't like violence." A silver of hope shot through Rufus at that statement. Pressing his paw down harder onto Rufus, Teiou continued, "So when the little one comes back with the ball, you are going to play with him. But touch him again, and I will hunt you down and kill you. Understand." Rufus whined in agreement.
The sound of pattering paws signaled to the two larger dogs that the little one was back. "What are ya playing?" Choco-Banana woofed at the two dogs. "Play ball! Play ball!"
Getting off Rufus, Teiou barked back, "Furbag here will play with you."
"No no! I want you to play with me too!" Choco-Banana barked.
"Can't. I have to be the referee."
"What's that?" Choco-Banana woofed questioningly.
Teiou dog-smirked and glared at a quiet Rufus. "Someone who made sure that the rules aren't broken. Right Furbag?"
Rufus gave a subdued bark in reply.
Choco-Banana not caring about rules, pushed the ball towards Rufus. "Let's play Furbag!"
Across the room, Akihito could be heard asking worriedly, "Asami, what's wrong with you?", when his lover, for seemingly no reason, burst out loud in laughter.
~The End ~
Note: Teiou (帝王) means Emperor.
And just for fun, Choco-Banana is written as チョコバナナ in Japanese
