Hold on a second here. You saw the word "Church" and you automatically assumed that this was the Roman Catholic Church. THIS IS NOT A ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH. The Roman Catholic church does not actively discriminate against homosexuals which is far more than I can say for most of the fundamentalist, conservative so-called Christian sects today. In fact, the Cathecism of the Catholic Church clearly states that homosexuals are not to be treated with disrespect.
This isn't to discount what the (Roman Catholic) Church did and covered up during the child sexual abuse scandals. That in itself is wrong and sickening. But the fact is that these churches are not the sameThe church in question in High Point church is a non-denominational, Christian church which is in no way, shape or form related to the Roman Catholic church. Rome has no say in what these people say, do or believe or proclaim to believe. No person, Christian or not, should judge a person on their sexual preference. There are conservative, non denominational Christan churches

Actually I know couple of local people who are the Roman Catholic church members who are actively oppose gay (I have some gay friends) and well... it looks like ANY Christian base church are oppose it. Look at the different activist group in our government and local offices.

just a note to add: Yea I know that Dallas has one of the largest gay population (I think we rank top 5 somewhere) but at the same time it is amazing how many people oppose them.

*shakes head*
Those Catholics who are actively opposed to gays are not true Catholics, no matter what they says. The Catechism calls for compassion for homosexuals. The Catholic Church does not persecute gays. (Seriously, if they did, they'd be out of a bunch of priests.)
And to say that "any" Christian based church is opposed to homosexuality simply isn't true. There are plenty of Christan churches out there who love as Christ would -- ie. love everyone, regardless of who they choose to love. Please don't look at Christianity as a whole as "gay haters." We're not. The fundamentalist, evangelical churches that are so prevalent in Texas and in our government are by and large "gay haters" but that is not reflective of Christian spirit, no matter what they say.
Living in the Bay Area means lots of understanding for gay rights and gay issues. That's something I'm so happy for. It makes moving to Texas (in the future) difficult but hopefully we can find a spot of tolerance :)
I think that a compromise could have been reached. They could have done the service without the pictures that were blatantly homosexual. Or they could have made a disclaimer somewhere stating that they do not endorse a homosexual lifestyle. Really, backing out at the last minute is just cruel when someone is already in so much turmoil. It wasn't handled well, but I can see both sides of the issue

I don't agree with the bible 100%. Why? because it is written by man. Sure some of the passage were inspire by God, but again... it is written by man. There hasn't been any record of Jesus or anyone Deity writing the holy book. On that note, this means that the passages could be interpret wrong. We do not have a direct recording or passage from that time. It has been translated and change over time. Heck, the old bible and the new bible of the same religion has change and translated. Also we all know that translation is not perfect
