I did my still life, it was lame. Painted one of Shuuichi's plants sitting on the windowsill with the light reflectin' off the leaves a' everythin' an' my professor was really impressed. He thinks I should "abandon the paint slinging" in favor of paintin' still life's an' portraits an' that kinda stuff. I showed him some sketches I did of a few ( Read more... )

It sounds like you have a very classical minded teacher. It might behoove you to find a modern art class with a teacher who maybe appreciates more radical artists.

In the end however, art is defined by the one who creates it. So I would not worry too much about what your professor says.

My problem is as a startin' student I need ta take certain classes, and this teacher was the only one with open seats. I guess next time I won't register so late.

I'm tryin' not ta, but he grades me!

Art is very relative, clearly, your sensei prefers the Classic tendencies. But we all know masterpieces from the Rennissance will always be the best.

Now-a-days, innovations are what captivate people.

Pardon me, but why in the world are you still in this class? By now you could have dropped it, received your money back and enrolled in a class that you would have enjoyed more.

You continually complain about this class and you seem to recieve niether joy nor growth from your teacher's instruction or your assignments. It seems to me that this is a waste of your time and I am confused as to why you insist on following this path.

The class is required for new art students an' I registered too late to get ta pick teachers. It's frustratin, cause I wanna get the degree, but he makes me feel like my style sucks!

Besides, I dun' wanna fail out, ya know?

You could still take it next semester when you could registar early enough to get a decent class.

Just becasue we art students are required to take certain classes does not mean we have to take all the general requirements at once.

I decided I was a very stupid fool not to at least paint as I wanted to and say what I wanted to when I painted as that seemed to be the only thing I could do that didn't concern anybody but myself that was nobody's business but my own.

That was Georgia O'Keeffe, one of the premier female artists in the world. She was a very interesting personality and I think you would like her and her work, Yachiru-chan.
