During the summer of 1999 when my daughter was 13, a particular anime that she was into watching a lot on Cartoon Network caught my attention.
I really don't know how or why, but I became completely enamored by Dragonball Z, and even more so fascinated by one particular character.
The fever wore down once my daughter moved on into high school and other anime series with more complex story lines. She'd been the only one I could talk to about Dragonball Z. None of my other friends could or were willing to try to understand. I read everything I could about it online. I wanted to talk about it with other people, particularly the erotic aspect of it all, but found myself unable to really get into discussions with so many kids- young people. I feared engaging in inappropriate internet chat with minors. Or just simply being seen as someone who'd do as such.
So my interest in DBZ kind of faded within me.... mainly because I never did find anyone around my own age who could relate until now.
*blinks* you're kidding? I've been a member of several adult-only DBZ groups, and even moderate one on yahell (it's yaoi/slash oriented). if you want a link, I'll be glad to provide it.
I feel there are actually some very good philosophies and mores to be found in the series. better than pokemon. tch.
It was most definitely better than a lot of those other series. I never did get into any others since.
However I could not find those "adult only groups" for DBZ back in '99. Maybe I just wasn't looking for them hard enough. Like I said, I began to give up on finding people to talk to about it pretty much by the time '01 rolled around.

well, don't feel obligated or anything, but here's the link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saiyajin_secrets/
you'll need to sign up to see it, though. it's yaoi fanfic, which may not appeal to you which is totally fine. :)
