New Car

I'm facing an unusual conundrum. My parents may be moving to Colorado. May is an iffy word in this situation, my father's in the final stage of the application process for one of five positions to be filled with five other people, two of which would have limitaitons of the time they could participate in the project. *Looks up at the subject* ( Read more... )

something that you can afford...

I love my truck, don't get me wrong, but I wish I didn't have the almost $300 payments each month...on top of insurance. Of course, I need my truck to haul PopCult to conventions, so it's not like I can get something cheaper.

Get something used, low miles, good on gas, and with a low payment, and something that isn't too expensive to insure. For some reason a Jetta jumped into my mind... anyway, good luck finding a new car.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've looked into Jetta and while I like them, they seem a little out of my price range, but I've wanted a Jetta since high school.

Although I haven't looking into the insurance aspect of things yet. I'll need to do that.

I'm not surprised you had to do that much work on a Subaru, though I must admit I'm stunned you got it to 16yrs old -- most Subarus start to break down around 85K, and are toast by 125K ( ... )

Okay I do have to say that the car before the Subaru was a Volvo wagon that only got retired because it's not worth fixing body damage on a car you only spent $1,000 on.

I was looking into a Hyundai, but maybe not now. The Elantra was rated the most reliable car for 2008, but that's mostly because the Camry's taken a nose dive (I've had a Camry too.)

A lot of people think that my suburu is a freak of nature. It used to be a mountain rescue vehicle, then sat for several years, survived my older sister (which is a feat for any car), and really only stated breaking after a run in with a semi-truck. I feel sad to let it go, but I don't need AWD anymore as there isn't a lot of snow in Seattle.

I'm going to have to look into the high mile lease vehicles. That's a tip I haven't herd before. Thanks!

Bluntly speaking- how about a late 1990s Ford Taurus? They are kinda reliable.

I actually looking for something newer than that. Because my parents probably aren't going to be around I want to be able to not be concerned at all and have a dealership to repair the car at.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
