OH. MY. GOD.
I just saw Star Trek at the Imax theater..... I'm still in awe. I didn't have huge expectations, seeing as it's a "reboot" and I knew there was going to be a time travel plot to explain away all discrepancies... but it was done well, and I was bloody impressed at how everything was pulled together.
The cast was perfect (My jaw hit the floor when I saw Simon Pegg [ Shaun of the Dead ] as Scotty). The kid who played Chekov was adorable. Not going to talk about every character, but suffice to say they worked amazingly with each other, and Kirk pulled it all together beautifully. Also, I LOVED how young Spock was able to say "live long and prosper" but have it mean "fuck you"
The soundtrack was epic without being overpowering. I might actually look into getting it, I liked it that much.
I don't normally say this... but the CGI was damn impressive.
Overall, it had everything. Action, drama, a bit of romance and a good amount of comedy. It had a lot of great one liners, including some of the more well known ones from the series. it also mentioned the short-lived series Enterprise (very tiny reference, blink and you'll miss it... I didn't catch it until I read it on IMDB afterwards). I was impressed, and I'd definitely suggest seeing it in Imax if possible.
